Picture of the day

The first start is shortly after 10:00am  The usual format includes -

Pursuit Racing This is where all boats can complete in the same race.  They will all start at different times with a countdown starting with the slowest boats and completing with the fastest boat.  The finish is at a set time for all boats.  The boat that has sailed the furthest is the winner.

Handicap Racing Here all the boats set off at the same time.  The race is timed and we use average lap times to calculate how long each boat has sailed.  All boats sail on a Handicap that is based on The Portsmouth Yardstick that is published annually by the RYA.  Some local changes are made to make it fairer on the whole fleet.

Fleet Racing This is where our main fleets set off separately  (Albacore, Laser, Solo).  If you don't have one of these then don't worry as there is also a separate start for the "Menagerie Fleet".  THese are theo other boats that do not fit within the above fleets.  If there are sufficient boats from a different class who sails in  this fleet we can also provide an official fleet, so you can see how you get on .  All club boats, except  the Albacore, Laser and Solo, compete in this fleet.

This informal series is run as a handicap race.  There are two of these Spring - April to June and July to September.  The start time is 7:00pm prompt and racing lasts approximately 45 mins to 1 hour.  Before going on  the water order and pay for your food and there is a bar open where you can sit and enjoy the sunset and a chat.

These races are ideal as a learning curve to start racing as help is available on the water by some of the more experienced sailors.

There are a number of club regattas throughout the year, some of which are included in the Sunday Series.  However there are some "Fun Races" aimed at everyone and prizes can be completely random.  In addition theer is a Christmas Series, and an Easter Series.

Over the year welcome sailors to come to club and compete against each other on our water.  A lot of these form part of National Series.  These include, Albacore, British Moth, Laser and Solo.
